Project
“Firebird”: ceramics on a garden barbecue
A garden barbecue structure turned into an authored piece: a golden firebird — the fire bird of Russian folklore — presides over the gable in hand-painted ceramic tile, among floral borders and mosaic. It is an example of my work in ceramics for fireplaces, barbecues and façades, made to last outdoors.

The idea
A functional corner of the garden — the barbecue — can also be the artistic centre of the space. Onto this outdoor structure I brought a golden firebird, a figure that carries Russian folklore into a Mediterranean garden.
The gable was clad in hand-painted, kiln-fired ceramic tile; the sides, with floral and ornamental borders, and the whole talks to mosaic (trencadís) elements on the nearby surfaces. Ceramic does not only decorate: it protects the structure and withstands sun, rain and the heat of the fire.
It is a sample of a concrete service — ceramics for fireplaces, kitchens, barbecue ovens and façades — where art becomes part of the architecture of the home and the garden.
